Barclay de Tolli M.B. (1761-1818) - an outstanding Russian military leader. Grand Duke, General Field-Marshal, by birth was from an old Scottish tribe. His ancestors took up their residence in the beginning cf XVII century in Riga. The monument to the Hero of Patriotic War of 1812 created by sculptor Orlovsky B.I. and architect Stasov V.P. was opened on 25 of December 1837. At the red granite pedestal there is inscription: "To Field-Marshal Grand duke Barclay de Tolli. 1812. 1813. 1814. 1815". at the plinth front side -"Done by B. Orlovsky". at the back side -"Cast by V Yekimov. 1836".
