Narvsky's Triumphal Gate. Stachek (Strike) Square.
Narvsky's Triumphal Gate was created in honour of Patriotic war of 1812 according to the project of G. Quarenghi and were initially the wooden made. In 1820-th V.P. Stasov elaborated the new gate's project to take the place of the old and dilapidated wooden one holding in the base of architectural composition the original Quarenghi's project. The use of fine architectural and sculptural ideas: the arch with Victory Chariot (after the model of Klodt P.K.). statues of Russian warriors (sculptors Pimenov S.S. and Demuth-Malinovsky V.I.). Victory statues (sculptors Tockarev N.A. and Krulov M.G.). fancy and sculptural details made of copper sheets - all these make the gate a real masterpiece. The gate was opened on 17 of August 1834. |
