Glory column"Glory column", dedicated to Russian-Turkish War of 1877-1878.


Izmaylovsky Prospect 7 (near Trinity -Izmaylovsky Cathedral).


Along Fontanka embankment near Izmailovsky Bridge from the second part of XVIII century was situated Life Guards Izmaylovsky regiment, which formed the elite of Russian Army. For the regiment was built the Trinity Cathedral according to the project of architect Stasov V.R.. Up to the 1917 the Cathedral served as the memorial of Izmaylovsky regiment military glory.
In 1887 in front of the north cathedral facade was installed the monument - Glory column - in honour of Russian soldiers feat during Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878. It was carried out according to the project of architect Grimm D.I. from five rows of captured Turkish guns, but in 1930 they were sent to Germany for a smelt. Nowadays the column has been restored, crowned with statue of Nika and installed at the former place.
