The inscription at the pedestal reads as follows: "To
Nickolay Vasilyevitch Gogol, city St. Petersburg. 19
March 1809-21 February 1852".
The monument done by sculptor Creitan V.R. and ar
chitect Maximov A.R. was opened the 17 of June
1896.
"Know - my name after me. will be happier me"-
this quotation from Gogol's letter to Zhuckovsky is
located at the left side of pedestal.
Inscriptions: at the left edge of the bust:"Modeled by
V. Creitorf. at the plinth: "Cast by K. Bertoe".
