The monument to P.F. Lesgaft - scientist, founder of physical education theory and scientific oasis, was opened in 2005 in the yard of SPCA in honor ol his 165-birthday anniversary.
The granite monument was carried out according to the project, of Petersburg's sculptor Valentin Ivanov, the graduate of the Academy. Prominent pedagogue and anatomist Piotr Lesgaft is Ihe founder and originator of the first in Russia professional physical culture education courses, in 1896 he gut the Highest Emperor`s permission to open in the capital special courses of physical culture teachers and instructors.
