Narvsky's Gate

Narvsky's Gate

From it's foundation, St.Petersburg has been linked with Moscow, Narva, and other towns in Russia by roads. At each entrance into the town there was a gate guarded by solders who collected a toll for the right to enter the city. Some of the districts of St.Petersburg have taken their names from these guard-posts, for example, the Narva Gate district. On your previous excursions round the centre of St.Petersburg you have mainly walked. Now we recommend you to have a trip by transport as well as on foot, for example, from Narva Gate down Strike Avenue, to get acquainted with the architecture and monuments of the Soviet period. The dominant of Kirovsky region was historically the Kirovsky plant, consequently its specific character was defined by peculiarity and disposition of the region. There are many constructions in architectural 'style of "constructive minimalism" belonging to 1920-1930th, which examples (dwelling"houses in Traktorny Street, school named after- the X October Revolution Anniversary, palace of the Culture named after Gorky, the building of the Kirovsky District Soviet) are well preserved up nowadays.
