The monument to the founder of the Great city -
Peter 1 - done by sculptor Mikhail Shemyakin calls
for discussion. In this work sculptor M.M. Shemyakin
and architect Bukhaev VB. used the lifetime Peter's
mask, executed in 1719 by sculptor Bartolomeo
Rastrelli.
The pedestal's inscription reads: "Russian Emperor
Peter I. The gift to St. Petersburg from artist. M.
Shemyakin (USA)". The sculpture was opened on 7
of June 1991.
