Zagoroany Prospect. 47. Military and Medical Academy (the former Obukhovskaya Hospital).
N.l.Pirogov (1810-1881) - prominent Russian suirgeon and anatomist, founder of military-field surgery. The bust done by sculptor Krestovsky l.V. and architect Rudnev L.V. was opened on 28 of April 1932 and installed in the yard of the former Obukhovsky Hospital. At the backside of the pedestal the inscription reads: "On that place was situated mortuary where N.I. Pirogov on frozen corpses' saw cuts created his atlas of topographical anatomy". Pirogov was the first to carry out the surgery operation under anaesthetic in conditions of the battle, introduced into practice fixed plaster.
