Square of arts

In 1949 was announced a competition on the best monument to A.S. Pushkin, it was timed to 150 birth anniversary of the Great Russian poet. The competition was won by young and at those days unknown sculptor Anickushin M.I. The project was carried out in accordance with requirements of socialist realism. Nevertheless it became one of the most fortunate and typical plastic arts" works of that period. The monument was opened in the center of the Square of Arts on 19 of June 1957.
Simultaneously with this work Anickushin M.I. realized two projects. Were done two sculptures of A.S. Pushkin, one - for metro station "Pushkinskaya". another - for metro station "Churnaya Rechka".
