Alexander I ("Alexander Pillar).


Palace Square.


The Center of St. Petersburg - Palace Square. Winter Palace, General Staff building. Alexander Column with an inscription facing Winter palace: "To Alexander I - Grateful Russia". The consistent reconstruction of the whole quarter's in Petersburg by a uniform plan started under Emperor Alexander I. Standing out among Russian sovereigns, he belongs not only to Russian, but also to the world history. Alexander Column done from polished granite with a statue of Angel with the Cross was opened on 30 of August 1834. The authors of the project are: architect - A.R. Montferrand. sculptors-Orlovsky B.I.. Svintzov R.V. Leppe I., ornamental design - Ballin E.. artist - Solntzev F.G.
