The monument to M.V Lomonosov (sculptor Zabello P.P. and architect Lutkin A.S.) was opened on 24 of September 1892. On the gray marble pedestal in gilded letters is written a quotation from the A.S.Pushkin poem dedicated to M.V.Lomonosov. Michailo Vasilyevitch Lomonosov was born near the town Kholmogoru in 1711. Lomonosov is the first Russian scientist - naturalist of world significance; poet, who laid the foundation of modern literary language; artist. historian, upholder of enlightenment and development of Russian science and economy. Died in St. Petersburg on 4 of April 1765. Was buried at Necropolis. The monument was erected in 1892 by Petersburg's Public municipal Administration. |
