Surikov V.I. (1848-1916) - a prominent Russian painter, "peredvizhnik". trie master of portrait and painting in water-colours. His monumental canvases are dedicated to russian history and present the breadth and polyphonic character of his compositions, vividness of colouring. The sculpture done by sculptor Eydiin L.U. and architect Spiridonov VL was opened on 14 of January 1999. There is a sign at the granite pedestal in cartouche and applied gilded letters: "Vasily Surikov". At the backside of the bronze bust is ciLcd the name of the author and at the backside of the pedestal is writ ten: "Administration of St. Petersburg. Russian Academy of Arts, State museum of urban sculpture. The executer - industrial complex "Sculpture", sponsor -Baltic construction company".
