The sign of the first pontoon bridgeUniversity Embankment 17.

 

The first bridge (on wooden barge - pontoons) was erected across the Neva between Basil and Admiralty islands in 1727. There was the beginning of Moscow highway (post road), wore situated dock¬yards and settlements of working people. Once the bridge was dissembled, but not for a long period of time. The new bridge was constructed at the same place - opposite the Menshikov Palace - in 1732. The bridge was in use only during summer period, in winter functioned the ice crossing.
